Tobacco Barns (Secaderos)
Spain/USA, 2022. Director Rocio Mesa. 98min.
In Rocío Mesa’s award-winning debut fiction feature, young Vera and teenager Nieves embark on a coming-of-age journey shaped by their encounters with a magical plant spirit – a gentle guardian adorned in leaves, tendrils and rural flora. As the children and this enigmatic creature connect, the film interlaces fashion, costume, and nature at the heart of its magical realist vision. Here, garments and natural adornment become a language of belonging and transformation, celebrating how rural fashion draws meaning and vitality from its environment.
With Tamara Arias de Saavedra, Ada Mar and Fidel Pérez.
Costumes by Mercedes Sanz.
