Nick Knight in Conversation

2015 | Frame By Frame: Dissecting The Fashion Moving Image Now

INTERVIEW: Saturday 21 March, 16:00–17:30

Hackney Picture House

As well as being one of the most in-demand fashion photographers working today, Nick Knight has over the last 15 years also produced a significant body of work in the moving image. In the late-1980s he began the then unusual practice of documenting his photographic shoots on video, and since co-founding the digital platform SHOWstudio in 2000, he has championed different forms of the moving image as compelling – and viable – ways of presenting contemporary fashion. SHOWstudio is now a leading platform internationally for displaying the fashion film. Knight will be joined by film scholar Nick Rees-Roberts to discuss his advocacy of novel and dynamic modes of fashion communication, with an emphasis on the moving image.

Nick Knight is an acclaimed fashion photographer and filmmaker. He has shot numerous editorials and campaigns for clients including Dior, Lancôme and Swarovski, and publications such as Vogue, Dazed and AnOther. He has published several photography books and has exhibited at the V&A, Saatchi Gallery, Somerset House and The Photographers’ Gallery. He is the co-founder of SHOWstudio.

Nick Rees-Roberts is a Lecturer in Film at the University of Bristol. He has authored several articles and books on both fashion and film and his most recent titles are Alain Delon: Style, Stardom and Masculinity and Fashion Film in the Digital Age, to be published later this year.
